BACKYARD OFFICE REQUIREMENTS

Permit Restrictions

  • No planning permit is required for a unit that is < 120 square feet and 6 ½ feet tall

  • No building permit is required for units < 120 square feet that is placed on the ground level

  • > 40% of the entire yard cannot be covered with structures (not including decks)

  • > 30% of the rear yard cannot be covered with structures (not including decks)

  • The addition of the deck would trigger a permit if it makes the square feet of the unit > 120 square feet

  • The addition of a slab foundation (if needed) would not trigger an additional permit

  • Electricity would require a permit

Height and Setback Restrictions

  • Height maximum: 6 ½

  • Setback: At least 5 feet from any property line

    • Applies regardless of the permit



ADU REQUIREMENTS

Zoning Restrictions

  • All single-family homes are permitted to have ADUs

  • All two-family homes are permitted to have ADUs

  • All multi-family homes are permitted to have ADUs

Setback and Height Restrictions

  • Height maximum: 16 feet

  • Setback Requirements:

    • Rear lot: 4 feet

    • Side lot: 4 feet

    • Any existing structure: 6 feet

Other Restrictions

  • Short-term rentals <30 days of any kind are not allowed
