BACKYARD OFFICE REQUIREMENTS:

Permit Restrictions

  • Planning permits are not required for detached structures under 120 square feet

    • The addition of a deck (which will most likely require its own permit) with an overhang will add to the square footage of the unit

  • Adding electrical would require the addition of a permit for the building and an electrical permit

Setback and Height Restrictions

  • Height restrictions: one story limit

  • Setback restrictions:

    • minimum setback from property line: 5 feet

    • minimum setback from other structures: 10 feet

    • if these are not followed, fire codes will be triggered


ADU REQUIREMENTS:

Zoning Restrictions

  • All single-family homes are permitted to have ADUs

  • All two-family homes are permitted to have ADUs

  • All multi-family homes are permitted to have ADUs

Setback and Height Restrictions

  • Height maximum: 16 feet

  • Setback requirements:

    • Rear lot: 4 feet

    • Side lot: 4 feet

Other Restrictions

  • Short-term rentals < 30 days are not allowed
