BACKYARD OFFICE REQUIREMENTS:

Permit Restrictions

  • Planning permit: dependent on each individual address; check with the planning department

  • Building permit: most likely required to build this unit

    • Not required for shed-like usage < 120 square feet

  • The addition of electricity would require an electrical permit

Setback and Height Restrictions

  • Check with Pleasanton city planning department


ADU REQUIREMENTS:

Zoning Restrictions

  • All single-family homes are permitted to have ADUs

  • All two-family homes are permitted to have ADUs

  • All multi-family homes are permitted to have ADUs

Setback and Height Restrictions

  • Height maximum: 16 feet

    • Specific exceptions may apply, so check the individual address with the city planning department

  • Setback requirements:

    • Rear lot: 4 feet

    • Side lot: 4 feet

Other Restrictions

  • Short-term rentals < 30 days are not allowed
